How to Prepare For Your Wedding Day

Engagement

Wedding planning comes with a lot of moving parts, and as much as we wish we could skip all the stress, that’s not always the case. The good news is that knowing how to prepare for your wedding day can make a huge difference. When the day finally arrives, you’ll feel ready, relaxed, and able to actually enjoy it.

If you’re already deep into planning and want some extra tips to make your day go even smoother, check out this blog here!

Monitor Your Budget

It’s super easy to get caught up in wanting all the latest and greatest for your wedding (aka the “trends”). When you first start planning, you usually set a budget — which is great.. but sticking to it? Not always so easy. You start browsing, see all the shiny things you think you need, and suddenly the numbers start adding up.

That’s why it’s so important to actually track your budget as you go. Keep an eye on what’s coming in and out, because those little extras add up fast. Trust me — you don’t want to look back after your wedding and realize you’ve spent way more than you planned. A little monitoring now will save a lot of stress (and money) later.

Include Your Partner in the Planning Process

Remember — your wedding day is about both of you. Don’t be afraid to ask your partner for input or involve them in the planning process. Planning a wedding doesn’t have to be a one-person job, and honestly, working through it together can even bring you closer.

That said, don’t get too caught up in every little detail. Take breaks when you need to — wedding planning can be stressful, and it’s important to step back and just breathe sometimes.

Make Sure To Add Personal Touches

Your wedding day doesn’t have to be boring or cookie-cutter — in fact, I say aim for the opposite! If there’s something you’ve been dreaming of doing at your wedding, go for it. This day is all about you and your partner, and it should feel completely personal.

Whether it’s custom match books, a cigar bar, or something totally unexpected, make it yours. At the end of the day, your wedding should reflect you two — and that’s what will make it truly memorable.

Schedule Appointments Ahead of Time

If you’re planning a wedding during the busy season (May–October), make sure to schedule your appointments early. This includes hair, makeup, nails, or any other prep you want done before your big day. Stylists and nail techs can book up months (or even a year) in advance, so if there’s someone specific you want, lock in your spot before they’re completely booked. It’ll save you a lot of last-minute stress!

Have Buffer Time

There are a million things that could go wrong on a wedding day… and a million things that could go right! The main thing to remember is to expect the unexpected — including things running a little behind schedule. That’s why it’s always smart to build in some buffer time on your wedding day. You can plan this with your wedding planner or photographer. (I do this with my couples!!!)

Prioritize Self-Care

Amid all the wedding planning chaos, don’t forget to make time for yourself (aka self-care). You want to feel (and possibly look) your best on one of the most special days of your life. That could mean booking a massage, doing a face mask, curling up with a book and a glass of wine, or spending time with friends and family — whatever makes you feel happy and relaxed. Taking care of yourself now can make a huge difference in how you feel leading up to your wedding day.

Have Backup Plans (especially in case of bad weather)

This is especially important if you’re planning an outdoor wedding — always have a backup plan. Mother Nature can be unpredictable, and you don’t want her to rain on your parade. (Pun intended 😉) Check with your venue to see whether they have tents or indoor options, just in case it rains on your wedding day. Being prepared means you can enjoy your day no matter the weather!

Communicate with your Photographer

Make sure you stay in touch with your photographer throughout the wedding planning process. We’re not just there to capture the day — we’re there to help make the whole planning experience smoother! Whether it’s recommending vendors, offering timeline tips, or even helping with outfit ideas, your photographer can be a huge source of support every step of the way.

Try Not To Overstress

Above all, one of my biggest tips for preparing for your wedding day is this: don’t stress too much. This is such a special experience, day, weekend, and it’s meant to be enjoyed. Try not to get caught up in the little details that really don’t matter in the long run. At the end of the day, what truly matters is celebrating your love with the people you care about most.
