downtown dc fall engagement

Don't get me wrong, I am all for the editorial and more produced type engagement photos. You're able to really get creative and showcase such an important moment in your life. However, there is something about these more lifestyle-type engagement sessions that just puts fire in my soul. When Alex and Richelle reached out to me to capture their engagement photos, they made their vision very clear. Something more on the casual side and incorporating activities that they both enjoy doing. Together we were able to come up with the ultimate game plan! So a little bit of a backstory on the lovely couple. Alex and Richelle met almost 8 years ago on the very first day of medical school. Although it was seemingly love, at first sight, they continued on as best friends for about 3 years. It wasn't until one day that they realized that they were meant to be with each and well... the rest is history. At the time we were planning their engagement session, they were in a long-distance relationship, Richelle in DC while Alex was in Cleveland. Thanks to our lovely planning skills, we were able to schedule the perfect time for Alex to meet up with Richelle in DC for their engagement session.

Alex and Richelle both enjoy traveling, hanging out at breweries & coffee shops, trying restaurants, and doing outdoor activities. It was important to them that we incorporate some of their favorite things in their engagement photos.

How It All Began

As I mentioned before, Alex and Richelle both wanted their engagement photos to reflect their fun-loving, adventurous personalities. They both enjoy more candid type photos so keeping that in mind throughout their session was incredibly important. We started off their session by stopping and grabbing some beers at The Berliner. The Berliner is a 4,200 sq ft. beer hall with outdoor seating that of course, we had to utilize.

Before heading out we made sure to grab some pizza before hitting the streets of Downtown DC. It can be easy to look at photos of couples and think "how can I be that calm in front of the camera". Your photographer has a lot to do with that actually. Whichever photographer you work with should make you feel 100% comfortable in front of the camera. Oftentimes photographers will give you prompts and help guide you along the way so that you don't feel lost or confused when it comes to posing. The number one tip to always remember though... always move. Movement is the key to a more candid, natural type image so constantly be moving your body and everything else will be golden.

The Berliner

Not long after finishing up some delicious pizza, we made our way to our last and final stop at Georgetown Waterfront Park. Alex and Richelle were able to squeeze in a quick outfit change into more formalwear to take some photos by the water. The water views behind them and the beautiful fall weather were the perfect endings to a rather perfect engagement session. I am forever obsessed with how these photos turned out and I hope you are too.
